Piloting Anticipatory Action in PRICCE Project at Char Kajol Union

Actively piloting anticipatory action frameworks in a coastal charland union in Patuakhali — a socio-ecological context closely analogous to Barguna’s most climate-exposed communities.

Under the PRICCE project with Caritas Bangladesh, CCI is piloting anticipatory action frameworks in Char Kajol Union, Galachipa Upazila, Patuakhali District. The assignment strengthens applied competency in coastal anticipatory action implementation, community preparedness, and inclusion of hard-to-reach populations.

The pilot integrates forecast-based triggers with community early action planning, Disaster Management Committee (DMC) functionality reviews, and shelter-centric preparedness protocols tailored to charland mobility and seasonal flood exposure.

Field teams combine household surveys, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and shelter observation protocols — methods CCI has refined across climate-vulnerable coastal and char communities throughout Bangladesh

GEDSI standards guide sampling, facilitation, and analysis. Disability-inclusive data collection (including Washington Group Short Set tools) and gender-responsive facilitation ensure that early actions reach women, persons with disabilities, and socially excluded households — not only the most visible community structures.

Findings feed into operational guidelines for local actors and into learning products for Caritas Bangladesh and partner networks

Programme highlights

  • Coastal charland anticipatory action protocol design
  • Community preparedness and early warning linkage
  • Inclusion of hard-to-reach and mobile populations
  • DMC and local actor capacity strengthening
CCI embeds gender-responsive methodologies, disability-inclusive data collection, and intersectional analysis across all fieldwork and reporting — not as an add-on, but as a core design principle.
