CCI’s ongoing research on coastal flood trigger thresholds builds on anticipatory action practice in Patuakhali and related coastal districts. The work examines how forecast lead times, river and tidal indicators, and community readiness interact.

Household and institutional interviews document the costs of false alarms and the consequences of late triggers — especially for women-headed households, fishers, and persons with disabilities who need longer mobilisation windows.

Research outputs include threshold option papers, decision trees for early action activation, and GEDSI notes on who is left behind when triggers favour average rather than marginal households.

Findings feed directly into PRICCE pilot learning and into CCI’s training curricula on AA triggering criteria

Programme highlights

  • Historical event–forecast linkage analysis
  • False-alarm and late-trigger cost studies
  • Threshold option papers for DMCs
  • GEDSI implications of trigger design
CCI embeds gender-responsive methodologies, disability-inclusive data collection, and intersectional analysis across all fieldwork and reporting — not as an add-on, but as a core design principle.
